Does your teen have a hard time managing their strong emotions? Do they experience challenges with friends or family, or general “drama” that leads to a lot of distress? Are you concerned that they could be hurting themselves or getting into bad or dangerous situations?

It’s hard to be a parent in this situation, which is why you need a specialist. Luckily, Dr. Williams knows how to help. She has worked extensively with teens and young adults who are struggling with distress related to intense emotions that are overwhelming their ability to cope. Using a warm and empathic approach and evidence-based skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), she will help your teen understand and cope with their challenging feelings, process trauma, and build effective coping skills to help them thrive, find hope, and build meaningful relationships.

In addition to helping teens, Dr. Williams is passionate about and has extensive experience in delivering individual, family, and group therapies for a range of presenting concerns across a variety of settings, primarily focused on children, adolescents, and young adults. She specializes in evidence-based and trauma-informed therapies for “toddlers & teens,” including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Child Parent Psychotherapy, and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.

Dr. Caitlin Williams earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University in 2020. She completed her clinical internship on the Child & Adolescent track at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR. Both of her postdoctoral fellowships were in Knoxville, TN, where she has resided since July 2020. The first fellowship was at Cherokee Health Systems, a federally qualified community mental health center, and the second fellowship was at the Center of Excellence for Children in State Custody through the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. In her current role at the University of Tennessee as a Clinical Assistant Professor, she supervises therapy and assessment services provided by graduate students in a clinical and counseling psychology doctoral program, teaches graduate courses, and is the Associate Director of the training clinic.
